Fire near Nevada City School of The Arts extinguished quickly
At 3:06 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20 a vegetation fire was reported off Lone Lobo Trail and Bitney Springs Road. CalFire, Grass Valley Fire Department, and Rough and Ready Fire Department were on the scene. The fire was 1/10th of an acre and located near the entrance of Nevada City School of The Arts (NCSA). Students at NCSA sheltered in place until the fire was extinguished, according to parents from NCSA. Bitney Springs Road was closed at Empress Road and NCSA parents waited outside a police barricade to pick up their children.
“The School sent us a text and a phone call saying that Bitney was closed. Going the other direction would take me an hour. I only have one kid there in seventh grade. She’s safe so I can wait as long as I need to,” said Melynda Fertig whose daughter attends NCSA.
Community Shelter in Place locations include hospitals, Senior living homes, and schools, according to Chris Espedal, Director of School Safety, Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office.
